The fabrics come from Brno, Cracow, Addis Abeba, from Lyon, Bologna, Houston, Thessaloniki, Birmingham and Nanjing, all of which are Leipzig’s twin towns. The equipment for the preparation of the Turkish coffee is from Travnik, the coffee itself is from Croatia, the tea assortments come from Turkey and Russia. Complimentary Lokum (Turkish delight) or sunflower seeds are served with your drinks. The furniture was designed and made by various groups of participants in workshops (Workshop-postcards 1, 2, 3, 4), over a period of several months. The name and the concept were developed by Apolonija Šušteršič and Meike Schalk, who were invited to redesign the GfZK Café in 2010. In Slovenian the word “KAFIČ”, Bosnian in origin but with its spelling and pronunciation adapted to Slovenian, means “corner café”. The café becomes a place where several different cultures meet to create and share a common space.
