Mediation as Curatorial Practice

The development of an exhibition is a lengthy process which can only come together through many factors and ingredients. Fundamental are the shifting perspectives and coordinates among which we move. There’s an institution. There’s a specific assignment. There’s an Idea, a Subject. There are the artist’s viewpoints and the exhibition space itself. There’s a run time and there are visitors. Big. Small. Familiar. Unfamiliar. Interested. And then there is the economy through which we all deal.

Mediation as curatorial practice seeks to establish connections between various forms of expression and the layers of meaning in and between them. These connections could occur through a unique use of labelling, through invitations to engage in a new experience of space or even through virtual space. The concept of „mediation as curatorial practice“ is based upon the idea of keeping the various backgrounds and questions of the visitors in mind – from the very start and throughout.
