Kunstforum International magazine presentation on the theme of “Cuteness” and discussion with Annekathrin Kohout, Katrin Köppert, Josefine Schulz and Wolfgang Ullrich.

Cuteness in art? For a long time that was considered a contradiction in terms. Art could be many things, beautiful and ugly, funny and ironic, grand and sublime, escapist and activist, but certainly not cute. But a change is on the horizon: Artists worldwide are now using the visual language of cute motifs, shapes, colours and materials for a variety of aesthetic, intellectual and political purposes.

The editor Annekathrin Kohout talks with the authors Katrin Köppert and Wolfgang Ullrich and the artist Josefine Schulz about the historical, social, cultural and political conditions that have made the artistic examination of cuteness necessary in the present and what cute art can look like.
