Texte zur Kunst

In 2018, the GfZK received a unique donation: Arend and Brigitte Oetker presented the Gallery of Contemporary Art with the entire collection of Texte zur Kunst editions.

Texte zur Kunst was founded in 1990. It is one of the leading art magazines, published quarterly with a circulation of 5000 copies in German and English. The issues are thematically devoted to current debates and discourses on art, theory and society.

With each issue, Texte zur Kunst offers special art editions of works by contemporary artists*, which can be purchased directly through the magazine. In total, there are now about 250 works.
Most of them have long been out of print.

Brigitte and Arend Oetker have collected all the works from the very first edition. In 1990, this included a multiple by Martin Kippenberger entitled “Vom Scheitel bis zur Speiseröhre, Modell Richie” (1990) to, most recently, a pigment print by Jana Euler.

Dr. Arend Oetker significantly shaped the founding of the GfZK at the same time as the founding ofTexten zur Kunst and helped drive it forward. The last 29 years of successful work at the GfZK and the dream of establishing a house for contemporary art in the eastern part of Germany in 1998 can be traced back to the Oetkers’ constant and consistent commitment. The collection of texts on art represents what was happening and being discussed on the international art market at the same time.
