small acts think and do tank

action space – radio cooperation – research blog

Alongside the workshop, a “think and do tank” is opened in the GfZK. The exhibition and action space introduces several international initiatives and different formats and possibilities of small acts, for example The Haircut before the Party (London, UK), Occupy your Home initiative (USA), h.arta group (RO). It provides more information on Hungary through the publication project, “The Subjective Atlas of Hungary” by Kitchen Budapest and the “Freedoc” initiative of photographer Gabriella Csoszó (TBC). The “think and do tank” also serves as a platform and workplace for local initiatives, who can sign up to use the space for meetings, workshops and further events.

The curated display of the action supports and develops collective and individual research, project work and collaborative processes. It includes a documentation of the international workshop, as well as the work of local actors in the space, in order to make these process accessible to a wider public interested in learning more about micro-strategies of self-empowerment and organisation.

The platform initiated by the „think and do tank“ is not limited to the action space in the GfZK, but also generates discourses over the radio frequencies of independent community radios, such as Radio Blau Leipzig, Radio Corax Halle and Radio Periscope Pécs (H). The radio cooperation will focus on the relevance of small acts and the possibilities of political and civic engagement in the context of self-organized community media.

The research blog is conceived as an on-line platform for thinking about small acts and will continue the exchange initiated in Leipzig on a longer term. It shall collect examples of small acts as tools of social change, as well as strategies and tactics with which small acts can be catalyzed or facilitated in a specific social context. It will act as a research tool and a strategic toolkit for anyone who is interested to think, work out and do small acts. The blog goes on-line in the beginning of October and will be developed gradually.
