When you visit an exhibition you will normally see the final result, but will be given no idea of the various stages involved in putting it together. You will generally learn little or nothing about things such as the initial idea, the curator’s concept, the financing and organisation, or the production of printed matter and display material. Backstage was developed to give you the opportunity to look behind the scenes of an exhibition.
Backstage opens at GfZK-1 four weeks before the opening of the main exhibition at GfZK-2, and runs for a total of eight weeks. During this time the museum’s visitors will be given an insight into the planning and realisation as well as the extensive mediation activities involved in staging an exhibition.
