STOK ROOM – a provisional construction, a bricolaged ‚hybrid’ of workshop and store room – combines new paintings and objects and foregrounds the use of found images and methods of re-combination and re-composition. The installation collapses disparate contexts into a unique constellation of signs and further negotiates the artist’s concern with notions of value (their fragile construction and shifts and changes), the economic logic of work, and production and desire harnessed to the function of contemporary capitalist environments. In a sort of fragmented still life Schmidt carefully balances the ‚civilized versus the primitive’ and plays with the conventions of classifications, presentations and representations.
