Carte Blanche VI: VNG-Verbundnetz Gas AG ›EAST for the record‹

The photo collection of Verbundnetz Gas AG is one of the most significant collections of contemporary photographic art in Germany. It is a reflection of a period of social transition. In the scope of Carte Blanche the VNG is now presenting its current extension to the collection, the focus of which is upon the events of autumn 1989 from a range of different biographical perspectives. The painting and graphic art collection of the VNG primarily comprises works by Saxon artists, the majority of whom are students or graduates of the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. The VNG was one of the first companies in the new federal states to initiate a collection, in 1992. Today, the artists included in both collections represent preeminent positions and trends in the international art scene.

From 2008 to early 2010, the GfZK is dedicated to the topic of private commitment to art. Eleven private individuals and companies have been invited to present their activities in the form of exhibitions. Those involved are given ›carte blanche‹, i.e. it is left entirely up to them how they interpret the assignment and with which curators they want to work. In return, they cover all the costs arising from their projects.
