The American female artist Karen Kilimnik has been invited to design the GfZK Café. Her theatrical productions give the viewer the feeling of being on stage and of playing a part. On the one hand, the viewer’s fascination of the ›spectacle‹ is maintained, on the other- by revealing the construction of its ›setting‹- we are made aware of our identity’s fundamental artificiality. This is also true of space: through its transformation into theatrical space, its identity- for instance as a ›white cube‹- is forfeited, becoming a variably ›changeable‹ and ›changing‹ space, the identity of which must constantly be defined anew.
