Marcel Odenbach

Marcel Odenbach (* 1963) is one of the pioneers of video art. His drawings, which represent an important part of his oeuvre, were largely unknown until now. Through the collaboration with the Liechtenstein Art Collection in Vaduz, the opportunity arose to present Odenbach as a draughtsman for once.

The questioning of everyday objects and autobiographical references determine the early drawings of the seventies. Often self-deprecating, Odenbach created a graphic panopticon of everyday things, complete with diary-like entries.

Odenbach acknowledged political responsibility early on. He experienced the events of the hot days of the Wende for a time in Berlin and Leipzig. The closer he gets to the events, the more he tries to keep his distance. The inclusion of documentary materials (photos) as exaggerated and reduced photocopies confuses the metaphors of “good and evil”.
