Heimo Zobernig

The works of the artist, born in Mauthen in 1958, are characterised by an unemotional and extremely reduced economy, both formally and aesthetically. What sometimes presents itself as inartistic, casually laconic and very often brittle are in fact analytically thought-out, very precise interventions in the contextual system of art. With an unusually broad spectrum of forms of expression (drawing, painting, sculpture, space-related installation, video and photography), Zobernig reflects on the external and internal framework conditions, the essence of art itself. In doing so, he invokes the tradition of geometric abstraction, but also modernism itself, which he uncompromisingly questions and ironises.
