Yi Gao completed his studies at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University Peking in 1999. In 2001 he moved to Berlin, where he obtained his master’s degree as a graduate designer from the Universität der Künste Berlin (UDK) in 2006. From 2009 to 2013 he worked for the cultural department of the Goethe-Institut (China). The focus of his work is on contemporary art, design and video/film. In 2014 he was the deputy director of the Today Art Museum in Peking. Gao Yi lives and works in Berlin, Leipzig and Peking. In 2019 he curated a mobile exhibition on the theme of Bauhaus within the framework of Bauhaus 100, which is on tour through China.
He curated the exhibition Body Search I as part of his scholarship at the GfZK.
