Morten Bjerre: Threshold Magic (June 11 to August 24, 2025)

Threshold Magic is the diploma project of Morten Bjerre. Located in the garden of the GfZK, four monstrous fingers emerge ambivalently from the soil. For Bjerre, grotesque and monstrous forms embody a vital tension between order and chaos — a space where fear can open the door to transformation. The inspiration for this project stems from the artists recent diagnosis with early-stage Multiple Sclerosis – a chronic autoimmune condition:

„This experience propelled me into what I describe as a “threshold state” — a liminal space where I was compelled to re-examine my relationship with my body, my mind, and the world around me. Suspended between the life I had known — unburdened by the uncertainties of MS — and a future not yet fully understood or accepted, I felt my sense of control slipping through my fingers. This in-between state was disorienting and frightening, yet also strangely captivating and alive.”

Morten Bjerre grew up in Denmark. His site-specific sculptures often appear as creatures entering into dialogue with their surroundings. With Threshold Magic he concludes his studies in the class for Installation and Space of Prof. Joachim Blank at Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) Leipzig.
