How can we obtain free local fruit in an environmentally friendly way? The Mundraub database (mundraub.org) provides locations and information on wild edible plants that are available locally. Together with Michael Berninger from the Essbare Stadt (edible city) initiative, we will go on a foraging trip by bicycle, deepening our knowledge of edible plants and harvesting seasonal local fruit. Afterwards, we will attend a workshop to learn more about the processing of rowan berries.
Some of the produce we harvest will be presented at our current collection exhibition, as part of the installation “The Top of the Truck that Hit the Bridge (seasonal fruit stand)” from the year 1999. For this artwork, Dan Petermann transformed the metal roof of a lorry that had been damaged in an accident into a kiosk. This serves as a meeting place within the exhibition space, where seasonal fruit is served in the bowls that are an integral part of the installation. It embodies the concept of sharing food and spending time together, while also reflecting the organic processes of ripening and decay.
Please bring sufficient containers for transporting the harvest.
