Join the the ‘Gemischte Bienengruppe Leipzig’ and learn all about beekeeping!
To mark our exhibition ‘Gaudiopolis – Attempts at a Joyful Society’, the GfZK Leipzig has collaborated with the internationally active arts group ‘finger’. Andreas Wolf and Florian Haas view the world of state-forming insects – honey bees – as analogous to current societal developments and debates.
The artists plan to set up a beekeeping group in Leipzig (the ‘Gemischte Bienengruppe Leipzig’), along the lines of similar groups that they have already set up in other cities. People from all backgrounds meet over the course of one whole bee season (March to October) at the beehives on the terrace of the GfZK and master, aided by the instruction of the beekeepers of the ‘Leipziger Imkervereins’ (Leipzig Beekeeping Club), the art of apiculture. The most important prerequisite for those who wish to participate is a genuine interest in working with bees.
The themes of the workshop will be ‘The Beekeeping Collective’ and ‘The Democracy of the Honey Bee’. The themes will be discussed and developed in the form of a large-scale mural, which will then form part of the exhibtion. The workshop is aimed at anyone who is interested in bees and associated societal processes.
