In the history of the Republican Party and the religious right in the US, men often take center stage in discussions and analyses. But without right-wing women, the movement would not be where it is today. What role have right-wing and far-right women played in the religious and political right in the US in recent decades? From historical opponents of women’s rights such as Phyllis Schlafly to their contemporary successors such as Allie Beth Stuckey, this lecture shows the roles and issues that women occupy in right-wing and far-right spaces in the public sphere – and the function they fulfill in doing so. We analyze (with a focus on the US) the current forms that anti-feminist activism takes online, look at the motivation of the respective influencers – and how they package anti-feminist, LGBTQ-hostile, and racist ideology as pastel-colored Instagram content in order to radicalize a new generation of young women.

This event is organised by the Research Institute Social Cohesion.
