The exhibition presents photography by one of Germany’s most important artists. Barbara Klemm’s work, spanning forty years, bears witness to the historical development and present-day reality of a country that was divided for decades. Many of her pictures have become icons of contemporary history, shaping the cultural memory of several generations. Barbara Klemm’s photographic work blends documentation and artistic inspiration in a way rarely seen in the German press. She adds her own perspective to the objective nature of the documentary image and follows the design principles of art in her compositions.
