Knots in Time

“An abundant potential rests behind the fascination with the sensations, imagery and the allegories unfolded in dreams; as knots in time, occurring in the absence of it but representing the totality of the past, present, and the future, dreams hide hints and warnings, inspiration and discovery, answers as well as questions for the self and the world.”

Lira Blakaj, Bjeshkë Guri: The Dream Catalog

The exhibition Knots in Time brings together works by three artists from Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine/Switzerland. They turn their attention to the cultural influences that have shaped them – the belief systems into which they were born, the cities in which they grew up, and the professions of their parents. The artists weave moments from the past into new, imaginative narratives that revolve around topics such as queer identity or family relationships. In doing so, they work artistically with a wide range of materials and media such as textiles, installation and performance.

The exhibition is curated by Simon Kurti. He is a curatorial fellow of the GfZK and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. The exhibition is being organized as part of the Dr. Klaus Schaffner Prize.
