Visit to the collection of the Museum of Antiquities at Leipzig University

The works in the exhibition Sarah Pierce: Scene of the Myth included various loans.
Part of the work Towards a Newer Laocoön was the Laocoön group from the Museum of Antiquities at the University of Leipzig.

The museum was founded in 1840 as an academic teaching and display collection and contains one of the oldest and most important collections of Greek and Roman antiquities at German universities. In addition to the original collection, it houses a collection of over 600 plaster casts of Greek and Roman marble and bronze works from all the world’s major museums of antiquities.
Dr Jörn Lang, research associate at Leipzig University, guided the friends of GfZK through the museum’s collection and gave them a glimpse behind the scenes.
