The friends of the GfZK visited the Geological-Paleontological Collection of the University of Leipzig and had a tour with Frank Bach, the custodian of the collection.
The collection contains large parts of the estate of Hermann Credner, who, together with his wife Marie Riebeck, had the present GfZK villa built, which was already an important cultural center in Leipzig at that time. Credner is one of the most important geologists in Saxony, who worked in the United States after his studies. As a surveyor, he accompanied the development of railroad infrastructure and gold mines. The cartography of Saxony which he had produced at the end of the 19th century and his book Elements of Geology are still fundamental works today.
The friends of the GfZK were visiting the Geological-Paleontological Collection on the occasion of the collection exhibition Vom Haben und Teilen. Who owns the collection?, in which parts of the study collection, which was located in today’s GfZK villa during Credner’s lifetime, were shown.
