In August, the Friends of GfZK visited the artist Victoria Lomasko, in her studio in Leipzig at Pilotenküche. There she gave us an insight into her life in exile in Germany. She explained her working methods and showed us some of her latest works.
The Moscow artist Victoria Lomasko, whose political works are banned in Russia, has been living in European exile since the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine. She has been a Martin Roth Initiative scholarship holder at the GfZK Leipzig since November 2022. Lomasko draws in courtrooms and at demonstrations and makes live reports, which she comments on with texts. In Russia and former Soviet republics, she documents people’s stories, creating a multifaceted picture of societies in transition. In her painting, which she will present in her studio, Lomasko assembles these pictorial reports into monumental portraits.
