The Friends of GfZK were cordially invited to preview the exhibition Meine Wunderkammern at the annual press conference.
About the exhibition:
Four children between the ages of 11 and 14 take us on a journey into their secret world. There is no bullying, no racism and no money. But plenty to discover! Wisdom, a boy of Cameroonian origin, Joline, who never wants to grow up, Elias, who lives on his own planet, and Roya, who came to Germany from Iran five years ago, show us fantastic places where they can be themselves without any worries. Although they are very different, they have one thing in common in their everyday lives in Germany: they don’t quite fit in. They stand out, get in trouble and sometimes feel excluded. Wisdom, Joline, Elias and Roya nevertheless manage to escape the pigeonholes of ‘migration background’, ‘autism’ or ‘learning disability’ into which they are often put. Their song says: “You’re not weird or different, you’re unique – show that!” For Meine Wunderkammern, they made up stories, built props, wrote lyrics and composed music to reveal their dreams and fears. In the walk-in room installation with drawings, sounds, film props and virtual reality animations, it is possible to see the film of the same name.
