Little Warsaw – The Battle of Inner Truth

The installation by the artist group Little Warsaw transforms the exhibition room into an unusual model landscape: around seventy statuettes from the public collections of Hungarian museums are used to portray a fictitious battle. Historic events and personalities from various centuries come face to face with one another. The Battle of Inner Truth is the result of artistic research investigating various forms of the representation of rule and defeat. What significance do these objects have for cultural memory? How does their reorganisation transform our thoughts on history and identity?

András Gálik and Bálint Havas have been working together since 1996 under the name of Little Warsaw. In 2003 they exhibited in the Hungarian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, in 2009 they were individually presented at the Kiscell Museum in Budapest and at the Abteiberg Museum in Mönchengladbach, and in 2010 they had their first retrospective at the Ausstellungshalle zeitgenössische Kunst in Münster.
