On 21 November 2006, the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft im BDI donated part of its art collection to the Stiftung Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig. This collection comprises a total of 50 artistic positions, predominantly abstract works of art. The handover marks the culmination and conclusion of one of the most important art projects of the reunification period: driven by the desire to assume cultural responsibility in the new Germany and to build a bridge between East and West, the Cultural Circle of German Business in the BDI decided in 1992 to recall parts of its art collection, which had until then been on loan to West German museums, and to permanently exhibit the central stock of artworks created after 1945 in the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, which was in the process of being founded.
