As part of the group exhibiton „It’s not about nothing – Episode 2“, Pınar Öğrenci shows her film Kein Change and the collage Big Day. Both works explore the archive of Nuri Musluoğlu, who arrived in the city of Heilbronn in 1965 as the son of a Turkish migrant worker. There, in the 1980s, he documented the protests by migrant workers against low wages and racism through photographs, Super 8 films and audio recordings. Through her engagement with Musluoğlus work, Öğrenci addresses the persistence of racially motivated violence in Germany aswell as her own expierence of migration, having come to Germany as a political refugee due to her political engagement for peace in Turkey.
Pınar Öğrenci (1973, Van, Turkey) lives in Berlin. Öğrenci’s works explore themes of displacement, migration, survival and resistance from a decolonial and feminist perspective.
