opening: a whisper, an echo, a touch somewhere behind facades, a resonance in concrete, a tangible trace, a fleeting in-between

Leipzig-based artist Julia Gerke explores how architectural structures can shape relationships, reflect inner states, or have a supportive effect. She works between sculpture, installation, architecture, text and sound. For the exhibition in the new building of the GFZK Leipzig, she invited the artist, musician and friend Alicia Franzke to jointly develop an extensive space-sound installation.

The space suggests a vaguely urban setting. Visitors:inside move as if through fragments of an urban scenery: past whimsical facades, isolated curbs, surfaces bearing witness to use, signs and codes. The installation questions whether architectural structures are truly neutral. They become visible and audible as carriers of memories, feelings and perspectives.
