On the occasion of the exhibition Things That Were Are Things Again, the Interspecies Society created microhabitats in the GfZK garden for small animals and insects. The Interspecies Society engages with the alarming loss of biodiversity the world faces today. In their long-term projects, they apply the principles of permaculture to artistic pursuits. Through this approach, they aim to create new living environments and relationship networks. They began in 2021 with small editions consisting of folded cards with plant seeds (limited according to harvest). Each card tells the story of the symbiotic relationship between a plant and an animal in watercolors and text, and issues an invitation to engage in this unique connection. Their microhabitats in the GfZK garden have been conceived as places for encounters with non-human beings.
Once a year, the Interspecies Society invites you to join them and LeipzigBirds for a Bioblitz #gfzkbiodiversity in the GfZK garden!
With a rich programme starting at 4 pm with workshops an tours on biodiversity with artists and scientists, ending at 9:30 pm with a late night moth viewing with Michael Ludwig.
In cooperation with LeipzigBirds, the Interspecies Society has launched a project on the platform iNaturalist. This is a worldwide citizen science project, where people collect photos and sound recordings of living creatures. The observations flow into the stock of scientific data on biodiversity.
